Standard-compliant waterproofing in buildings with bitumen/polymer coating

Bituminous waterproofing coating or membrane tanking (German “black tank”) is a term used to describe a construction method where the floor slab and outer walls of a structure are sealed with bituminous or polymer membranes or a thick bituminous coating to prevent the penetration of water. This type of construction is described in Germany by the DIN 18533 standard. Floor drains which are used in parts of buildings with bituminous membrane or coating tanking in contact with the ground must be waterproofed separately using a membrane.
